Osbourn High School has chosen their amazing players for the girls basketball team! With great team chemistry and amazing tactics, the team is ready to dominate the basketball season.
Osbourn is known for its great sportsmanship when it comes to sports. And it’s only reasonable to recognize the school for its girls basketball team! This team has let us in on some of its skills and techniques to make this season count. One major person on this team, despite not playing themselves, is their head coach of the team, Coach Nguyen. A great way to help a team improve their skill is to provide feedback, but what’s the best way to do so? Coach Nguyen states, “Each player is different. There are players who receive feedback better on the side and there are players (like myself) who need to be corrected more aggressively. I think I have a pretty good grasp on how my players respond to different ways of delivering feedback.” Being able to provide feedback and support to the players in an effective manner is what helps these players thrive and improve their performance.
These players have been able to take this feedback and take it to the next level, some sharing how they use this feedback to improve their performance. 11th grade Student and athlete Janisha Minas shares the best piece of advice they have received. “Don’t play scared because you’re the only one who can control how you play.” This piece of advice can be very helpful for many, and in this case, really seemed to help Janisha’s performance on the court. Despite taking great advice into action when in play, another important aspect is being sure you’re prepared and ready for any upcoming games. It’s always important to be calm and prepared before a game, and this is something that 10th grader Keila Rich is sure to take seriously. She states, “Some steps I take to prepare myself are hanging out with my friends before the game to calm down, singing to myself, and praying before I play.” Being relaxed and prepared before a game is very important; this ensures that the players are ready to dominate the court and show their full potential.
As games begin to approach, players and their coaches must come up with ways to prepare their players. Coach Nguyen shares her captivating strategy that helps her come up with a way to have her team dominate the opponent. She shared the following: “I watch films of our opponents. I create a scouting report that identifies the offenses and defenses they run, the strengths and weaknesses of their individual players, and a game plan for our team. I then go over the scouting report and film with the team. Then we spend practice implementing our game plan against a scout team that runs the other team’s offenses and defenses.” Despite how uncommon this strategy may be, it seems to put the team at an advantage, helping the win seem more achievable for the team. Not only does a coach need to take action to create a plan to be ready for games, but many players must practice in order to perform their best. “I improve my skills by practicing and being patient because it takes time and practice to get the momentum of the sport,” says Janisha.
As the girls basketball team continues to improve their skills and strategies, they slowly become ready to crush this basketball season. Be sure to attend their games and look into their great performances and strong suits. Upcoming games include:
