There are many interesting and great sports to check out at Osbourn High School like basketball, soccer, lacrosse, football, tennis, cheer, wrestling, golf, and track. One of the most popular ones is the OHS swim team. What exactly is it all about? And what makes it so popular? Let’s take a look.
First, let’s see when and why members first started getting into swimming. “I started competitive swimming my sophomore year. I started to have fun with friends and to do extra workouts after school. I would keep swimming for fun since swimming is a great way to exercise, ” said senior Emma Lindenfelser. “I’ve been the swim coach for 4 years. I really loved doing it while growing up. It’s really fun to teach kids to swim,” said swim coach Ryder.
Usually in sports each member has their own favorite thing they love about it.”My favorite thing about the swim team is having lots of fun at meets and silly practices. I swim a little bit of everything, but my favorite events are the 500 freestyle and 200 freestyle, ” said Lindenfelser. “My favorite thing about the swim team is watching people improve, have fun and all the smiles,” said Ryder.
What are some steps and measures the team takes to prepare for competitions? “We have a team meeting to discuss what events we are swimming and have a meal together before we get on the bus,” said Lindenfelser. “To prepare for competitions we practice many different routines,” said Ryder.
One of the most interesting things about being part of a school sports team is how exactly people on the team feel about being part of something like that.”It feels very great to be part of a team. It is really fun to be a mentor and role model for younger swimmers,” said Lindenfelser. “Being the team coach for the swim team is incredible and I’m very happy seeing people’s growth during their time participating in it,” said Ryder.
To participate in a team sport there always is some sort of motivation that keeps the team members going. “I am motivated by my teammates and my coaches,” said Lindenfelser. “When motivating team members I use constructive criticism to help them improve,” said Ryder.
There are also some important requirements that are needed before joining. “I believe you need to be able to swim two laps,” said Lindenfelser.”To join the swim team the person must already know how to swim and also demonstrate a good work ethic,” said Ryder.
Now finally would they recommend the team to anyone? “I would totally recommend joining the swim team! Everyone is really supportive and caring, regardless of your skill level. It is truly a fun and positive team environment!,” said Lindenfelser. “Yes! I definitely would as the team can really benefit from more members. The more the merrier!” said Ryder.
The OHS Swim Team is definitely a sport worth checking out. From within, it is a group with a strong sense of unity and teamwork. Be sure to help give them the support they need for future competitions. Go Eagles!
