The holiday season is finally here, bringing with it a sense of excitement and cheer that fills the air. Whether it’s the bright decorations around the school, the anticipation of winter break, or the traditions we share with family and friends, there’s something magical about this time of year.
For many, the holidays are all about the traditions that bring families and friends together. Whether it’s a special meal, a favorite decoration, or a yearly event, these customs help make the season even more memorable. One of the best parts of the holidays is sharing those traditions with others and creating lasting memories that we look forward to year after year. “I really love going to my cousin’s house and doing Secret Santa and opening gifts on Christmas,” said Chelsea Carbajal, a freshman here at OHS.
As the holidays approach, many of us start making our wish list, dreaming of the perfect gift. Maybe something we’ve been having our eye on for months or a surprise we’re hoping to unwrap, the excitement of giving and receiving gifts adds a special spark to the season. “I’ve been really looking forward to getting Uggs because I’ve been wanting Uggs for a really long time now,” said Pamela Quiroz, a freshman here at OHS.
This time of year presents the perfect opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and explore something new. If it’s trying a new winter sport, attending a unique event, or spending time doing something creative, the season offers endless possibilities. These activities can turn into unforgettable moments, adding a fresh twist to the usual routine and giving us stories to look back on for years to come. “I want to go ice skating. I went once with my friend and it was really fun so I hope to do it again,” said Jimena Chavarria, a freshman here at OHS.
For a lot people, the perfect holiday meal is all about comfort, tradition, and the flavor that brings family and friends together. From a big, home-cooked feast to a sweet treat shared around the table, food plays a major role in making the season feel special. “My idea for the perfect holiday meal would be panes con pollo because they’re so good,” said Vanessa Castillo, a freshman here at OHS. For context, panes con pollo are a Salvadorian dish made with French bread and chicken and vegetables like cucumber and radish and cut-up cabbage.
When it comes to the excitement of the holiday season, many people find joy in both giving and receiving gifts, but the true magic often lies in the act of giving. There’s something special about picking out the perfect present for someone and seeing their reaction when they open it. The thought behind the gift, and the happiness it brings to others, can be even more rewarding than receiving one. It’s the sense of connection and love that makes the experience so meaningful. “I personally love giving gifts because it makes me feel like I am doing something special for someone who is special to me, specifically my friends and family,” said Quiroz.
Imagine escaping to a place where everything feels magical, whether it’s a snowy mountain or a tropical beach paradise. A holiday getaway can be the perfect chance to unwind, explore new places, and create unforgettable memories. Whether you’re dreaming of cozying up in a cabin surrounded by winter wonderland or enjoying sunny days in a distant city, the ideal destination is all about the experiences you hope to have and the adventures waiting to be discovered. “I would want to go to a ski resort and have a bunch of snow and stay inside and drink hot chocolate,” said Carbajal.
With the holidays in full swing, it’s the perfect time to cozy up with a great book or binge-watch a movie you’ve been meaning to see. Maybe it’s the latest bestseller, a classic holiday film, or a new release that’s been getting rave reviews, this season offers plenty of opportunities to dive into stories that captivate and inspire.”I would like to experience watching Twilight because I think that it fits into this season,” said Castillo.
This time of year is all about spending quality time with the people who matter most. Whether it’s baking cookies together, watching holiday movies, or taking a winter walk, these moments create lasting memories and bring everyone closer. The best part about the holidays is the chance to enjoy simple traditions and fun activities that make the season even more special, and sharing them with family and friends is what makes it truly unforgettable. “I enjoy opening Christmas presents on Christmas day with my family because I like to see what they get and what I get also,” said Quiroz.
This time is the perfect balance of fun and relaxation, and everyone has their own way of making the most of this special time of year. Whether you prefer unwinding with a good book, spending time with family and friends, or giving back through volunteering, there’s no shortage of ways to create meaningful moments. It’s all about finding what brings you joy and embracing it, making the season feel both fulfilling and memorable. “For this winter break, I just want to relax and enjoy it to the fullest because who knows when our next break is,” said Chavarria.
