Out of the three mealtime genres of the day, my personal favorite is breakfast. There’s something so comforting to me about the classic Southern American breakfast, even if it’s unrealistic for a daily meal.
If you’re looking for a cute breakfast joint to hit on the weekends, or if you’re the ordering-out type, I’ve got one for you.
The Omelette Cafe on Center Street, in business since 2016, is a family-owned business that serves delicious brunch.
Our waitress, Merlin, was very nice and let us make accommodations as needed. She told us they even have a second location in consideration for the future.
From omelettes and toast to delicious waffles and pancakes, salads, sandwiches, and even burgers, The Omelette Cafe is plentiful in brunch options for you to choose from. And you can’t forget their crepes! The first time I tried The Omelette Cafe, I got a Dulce de Leche crepe. Creamy and sweet… I greatly recommend it.
For my latest order, I got a New Orleans omelette wrap. Inside the omelette were chopped spicy sausage, cajun rice, and melted cheddar, served with my choice of white bread toast. And of course, I couldn’t resist getting some coffee, and unsweetened tea with my meal. Personally, I’m not a fan of hot drinks and hot food, especially food with spice.
My mom’s meal, which I tried some of, was quite delicious. It was their western omelette with Swiss cheese, home fries, and white bread toast. She ordered an additional side of chipped beef gravy to pour onto her toast. The orange juice, personally not my thing because of the pulp, was freshly squeezed with a machine. It was really delicious, however! My mom loved it. When I asked her what she thought of her omelette, she had only positives to say.
“You can tell the eggs are freshly mixed, none of that pre-made stuff. The veggies are fresh, and still have a little crunch to them,” my mom praised.
So what’s it like inside? The atmosphere is cozy and simple. If you’re a fan of trains, you’ll enjoy the iconography inside. On the wall we sat, there was a beautiful train mural along the wall. Along the walls were also lined with train photographs. I theorize it’s because they’re near the train tracks, or maybe the owner just likes trains! We even heard the train just once while we were inside. Depending on the person, that might be obnoxious, but it was calming for me.
The Omelette Cafe has even impressed locals. While we were there, just as they opened, an older gentleman came inside with a newspaper and bible. I just knew he was the perfect person to interview.
“They sell what the people want, and they do good work,” local Dick Chichester expressed. “I was coming home from the job that I had at the time when I saw the signs up. I thought I’d give them a try. I was pleasantly surprised, and I’ve been coming here ever since!”
In conclusion, my experience with The Omelette Cafe was just amazing. I had IHop the previous day, and while I love IHop… I would certainly choose The Omelette Cafe again. There’s something so special about a family-owned business. The Omelette Cafe is certainly worth a try.
