Osbourn’s wrestling team does not get enough recognition. Osbourn has some very talented wrestlers ranging from skinny and small to big and buff, but who would want to mess with them right? Osbourn’s wrestlers take a lot of time in their day to head to practice and get some conditioning to stay in shape, also leading to wrestlers having to “cut” weight, meaning they would have to lose pounds or gain pounds just to make it in.
Some wrestlers have it tough and need to start getting in shape right now. Some have dreams of success and need to get to work so they can achieve that for this upcoming season. “Something I really want to work on is my technique and get really good at it by the end of the wrestling season,” said Justin Lovo.
But it’s not always technique that wrestlers want to improve for the season, it sometimes comes to strength. As a wrestler, you would be going against people of all different shapes and sizes ranging from people taller, shorter, slimmer, and thicker than you. “I really wanna work on more strength, only because each year I’ve grown so much and learned so many new things,” said Alexander Mendez.
But not only technique and strength matter in wrestling. Wrestlers need speed and speed always kills. “I think what I really need to work on is my speed when going against other people’s speed. I feel it helps you zoom around on the mat,” said David Bennet.
Not always do wrestlers have things they want to improve on to be better wrestlers, but they also have dreams to achieve and goals set up for them to meet when the season comes to an end. Currently, they are only in the offseason; the regular season does not start until November. “Something I wanna accomplish is making varsity and being at an AAA regional championship. I always wanted to make it,” said Lovo.
But some just really need their strength and will do anything to make their dream come true by being a good, strong wrestler. “Improving my strength is my dream,” said Matthew Alvarado.
The season is coming closer and closer, and then BOOM, just like that, the wrestling season has started. While wrestlers get ready to go into a new season, some have some moves they would be looking forward to using, some of their favorites you can say. Not only do wrestlers have to get through regular season practices, but some may say that it’s a battle in their conditioning. “I don’t see them as hard days only because I see them as a day to get better for myself and members of the team,” said Kevin Segovia.
“For me no, I don’t really see them as hard days,” said Alvarado. But some might disagree and see it as hard.
“There were a few practices where we had to do bear crawls for half the practice, and it was very tiring and hard,” said Bennet.
Now the season comes closer for the wrestlers. As they get ready for their meets and matchups for this upcoming season, going against big opponents, the wrestlers are prepared and ready for another great season. Good luck to the Osbourn wrestlers this season. Go Eagles!
