Nowadays, many people have been becoming more involved in multiple extracurriculars. Extracurriculars are a very great way to build strong social connections with others as well as to expand one’s skillset. They are also a great way to strengthen a college resume or student record. Here at Osbourn High School, there are over 55 different clubs and sports to choose from. So what clubs are trending among students this year?
People have joined a variety of different extracurriculars.”I do cross country, spring track, debate, and esports,” said senior Gustavo Zeno Gavilano. “I’m currently in HOS, key club, and debate,” said senior Dayanna Oliva Jimenez. “I am part of CAA, math honor society, positive change ambassadors, Interact club, and the academic team,” said senior Emma Lindenfelser.
People have different interests and reasons as to why they chose the clubs that they did.”I chose those clubs because they sounded interesting to me and provided fun opportunities and events!” said Emma.
“I chose the clubs I’m in because it’s what I enjoy doing in my free time and it looks good on college applications,” said Gustavo. “I chose those clubs because really I wanted to mostly get involved within the community and try to make some sort of impact within,” said Dayanna.
People have expressed why these clubs are so enjoyable to them and to the other members. “What makes them enjoyable is the things we do. Last year, I was in Interact club, and we would go to the nearby elementary school and make games for the kids to play while they wore costumes,” said Dayanna. “The clubs are enjoyable because they provide opportunities to hang out with friends and make a positive impact on the community,” said Emma.”I’d say the activities, people, and culture are what’s most enjoyable about my clubs; cross-country meets are always great for bonding,” said Gustavo.
Coming from experience, many different clubs are being recommended for other people to try. “I’d recommend key club and Interact club, because of the positive impact on the community. I’d also recommend students to choose whichever clubs they are most interested in, and if a club doesn’t exist, then they should create it with a sponsor,” said Gustavo. “I highly recommend the Interact club and also leadership/sca!!” said Dayanna. “I would recommend Interact club to others because this club has many ways to earn volunteer hours that can be important for many extracurricular activities,” said Emma.
Students have also talked about why joining extracurriculars in school is important. “It is important for students to join clubs to enhance their resumes and build collaboration skills,” said Emma. “I believe joining a club is important because it creates community. People who would otherwise be at home watching TV and scrolling on Tik Tok have an after-school niche where they can make friends, participate in activities they enjoy, and make our school more lively. Being in, or leading clubs also looks good on college applications,” said Gustavo. “A student should definitely join a club because who wouldn’t want something to do that isn’t just school? It is an excellent opportunity for students to get involved with the community and to work with people they have never met while being in a leadership position,” said Dayanna.
So, it seems like clubs that offer leadership and community involvment are the most popular this year. However, students can feel free to join whatever extracurriculars best suit their interests. Joining extracurriculars has many benefits from making new friends to learning new skills, and joining should be more encouraged.

I’m not really into sports, nor do I see myself as athletic sadly. But some of my friends really want me to get into wrestling for whatever reason so if I had to pick any I’d probably pick that

I’m planning on joining the Jesus Club that happens once a week on Wednesdays. Maybe later on if anything else catches my eye, I might join that club and keep myself entertained and not always going home and just jump in bed and scroll on TikTok for hours.

I like this article a lot! I’m not someone who will typically participate in clubs because I’m not very social, but I think it’s a good way to get out and talk to more people.

if a club for paleontology ever exist, I’d be willing to join it as I love me extinct creatures such as the protomammal cynognathus or the spinosaurid baryonyx and extant creatures like the slender-snouted crocodile. of course there’s millions of not billions of unique creatures that have existed ever since the ediacaran.

A suggestion: You could go to a teacher, pitch the club idea, and the teacher could become the club sponser as that’s what was done with debate club
