In the history of the United States of America, only two presidents have been impeached. Andrew Johnson, 17th President, was impeached for political conflicts. 42nd President Bill Clinton was impeached after committing perjury, which is lying under oath. Now, another President has faced impeachment and is currently under review for his wrong doings.
Donald Trump is the 3rd President in US history to be impeached. He is under investigation after a whistleblower (a person who informs on a person or organization engaged in an illicit activity.) Allegedly the President might have abused his powers to withhold any military aid to pressure Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. In addition, also to investigate the conspiracy theory that Ukraine was behind interference in the 2016 US presidential election. There was also a call between the two presidents. President Trump was congratulating Volodymyr Zelenskyy on becoming the new president of Ukraine. A rough transcript of the conversation between the two presidents can be found on the CNN Politics website.
“I think you will do a great job. I have many friends in the Ukraine who know you and like you,” Trump said during the call between him and Zelenskyy.
Shortly after, Trump faces his trials. Currently, the trials have reached their third day. On the first day of the impeachment hearing, the House of Representatives opened up their public impeachment hearings against President Trump. On day two, the US Senate opened their arguments on removing the President from office. Representative Adam Schiff, who is also the lead prosecutor, told senators they need to remove Trump from office because “he’s shown he’s ready and willing to cheat in the 2020 election.
“The President’s misconduct cannot be decided at the ballot box because we cannot be assured the vote will be fairly won,” Schiff told the Senate.
On day three of the trials, Schiff made it clear that in the US rights matter and that the president does not act in the best interest of the country, but only in the best interest of himself. The Democrats continue to present their case to the Republicans, but the opposition party demands witnesses, requesting that they call Joe and Hunter Biden, two persons of interest. The Republicans also demand to hear from the defense because they claim the American people are only hearing one side of the story, and that it’s time to hear the full coverage. Two days later, reaching day five of the impeachment, which took place last Saturday, Trump’s defense team began their case against his conviction and removal. On the seventh day, Trump and his defense wrapped up their arguments before the US Senate began their inquiries. More information about the impeachment trial will be provided soon.
